A Construction-Specific approach to Focused Interaction in Flexible Parsing
نویسنده
چکیده
~ A flexible parser can deal with input that deviates from its grammar, in addition to input that conforms to it. Ideally, such a parser will correct the deviant input: sometimes, it will be unable to correct it at all; at other times, correction will be possible, but only to within a range of ambiguous possJbilities. This paper is concerned with such ambiguous situations, and with making it as easy as possible for the ambiguity to be resolved through consultation with the user of the parser we presume interactive use. We show the importance of asking the user for clarification in as focused a way as possible. Focused interaction of this kind is facilitated by a construction. specific approach to flexible parsing, with specialized parsing techniques for each type of construction, and specialized ambiguity representations for each type of ambiguity that a particular construction can give rise to. A construction-specific approach also aids in task-specific language development by allowing a language definibon that is natural in terms of the task domain to be interpreted directly without compilation into a uniform grammar formalism, thus greatly speeding the testing of changes to the language definition.

Multi-strategy parsing and its role in robust man-machine communication
Robust natural language interpretation requires strong semantic domain models, "fai lsoft" recovery heuristics, flexible control structures, and focused user interaction when automatic correct ion proves infeasible. Al though single-strategy parsers have met with some success, a multi-strategy approach, with strategies selected dynamically according to the type of construct ion being parsed at ...
متن کاملMulti-Strategy Construction-Specific Parsing for Flexible Data Base Query and Update
The advantages of a multi-strategy, construction-specific approach to parsing in applied natural language processing are explained through an examination of two pilot parsers we have constructed. Our approach exploits domain semantics and prior knowledge of expected constructions, using multiple parsing strategies each optimized to recognize different construction types. It is shown that a mult...
متن کاملConstruction and Analysis of Tissue-Specific Protein-Protein Interaction Networks in Humans
We have studied the changes in protein-protein interaction network of 38 different tissues of the human body. 123 gene expression samples from these tissues were used to construct human protein-protein interaction network. This network is then pruned using the gene expression samples of each tissue to construct different protein-protein interaction networks corresponding to different studied ti...
متن کاملAn improved joint model: POS tagging and dependency parsing
Dependency parsing is a way of syntactic parsing and a natural language that automatically analyzes the dependency structure of sentences, and the input for each sentence creates a dependency graph. Part-Of-Speech (POS) tagging is a prerequisite for dependency parsing. Generally, dependency parsers do the POS tagging task along with dependency parsing in a pipeline mode. Unfortunately, in pipel...
متن کاملFast, Flexible, and Declarative Construction of Abstract Syntax Trees with PEGs
We address a declarative construction of abstract syntax trees with Parsing Expression Grammars. AST operators (constructor, connector, and tagging) are newly defined to specify flexible AST constructions. A new challenge coming with PEGs is the consistency management of ASTs in backtracking and packrat parsing. We make the transaction AST machine in order to perform AST operations in the conte...
